This October, Cincinnati is celebrating the remarkable art and legacy of Charley and Edie Harper—and we’re starting the conversation over tea.
Join Churchill’s Fine Teas for a relaxed Tea & Tale Social celebrating Charley and Edie Harper, just ahead of two major Cincinnati exhibitions opening later in October: The Art of Charley Harper: Creatures Wild and Tame at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Edie McKee Harper: Modernist at Play at the Taft Museum of Art.
Whether you’ve loved Charley Harper’s unmistakable birds and wildlife for years, are curious to learn more before visiting the upcoming Cincinnati exhibitions, or simply enjoy discovering something new over a good cup of tea, you’re welcome at the table.
No knowledge of art—or tea—is required.
Through a fun 20-question Charley Harper trivia game, we’ll discover stories about Charley’s life, his Cincinnati connections, his distinctive “minimal realism,” his love of wildlife and nature, and the creative partnership and lives of Charley and fellow artist Edie Harper.
We’ll also share a special Churchill’s connection to their art.
Churchill’s collaborated directly with the Charley Harper Art Studio and Cincinnati’s Cincy Candle Lab to create two exclusive tea-and-candle pairings bringing together Cincinnati art, tea, and fragrance. One features Charley Harper’s Cardinal Claus paired with Churchill’s White Christmas Tea. The other features Edie Harper’s Magnificat paired with Churchill’s Hot Cincinnati Spice Rooibos.
You’ll have a chance to see both designs on the collaboration candles, hear the story of how these unusual pairings came together, and discover how two very different Harper images inspired an experience that can be enjoyed through art, aroma, and a cup of tea.
A selection of Churchill’s teas will be available to enjoy throughout the afternoon. We’ll briefly introduce what we’re serving at the beginning, then the airpots are yours to explore—refill your cup, try something different, and discover a new favorite while you play trivia and meet fellow guests.
This isn’t an art-history lecture or a formal tea tasting. Tea & Tale is about curiosity, conversation, and community.
Come for Charley and Edie Harper, discover some tea, test your trivia skills, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon celebrating two artists whose creative lives became an important part of Cincinnati’s story.
