Why Use a Chasen Holder?

A traditional bamboo chasen (茶筅) has finely shaped tines that can gradually lose their curved form with repeated use. Placing a rinsed whisk on a properly shaped holder supports the tines as they dry and helps maintain the whisk's form between preparations.

The holder also keeps your chasen upright and creates a designated place for it as part of your matcha setup.

How to Use

After preparing your matcha, rinse the chasen gently with clean warm water. Shake off excess moisture and place the whisk over the holder with the tines facing downward around its curved form. Leave the chasen uncovered in a well-ventilated area until completely dry.

Care

Hand wash or wipe the ceramic holder clean as needed. Do not allow water to remain pooled around its base, and allow both the holder and bamboo whisk to dry completely between uses.
